RC Helicopters
I got interested in RC Helicopters when I was working in Iraq. I worked with a group of technicians who maintained and repaired the remote controlled robots that the EOD teams used to diffuse roadside bombs. One of the technicians bought a Walkera helicopter that he flew in the shop after working hours. I could not believe how far remote controlled electric model helicopters had advanced. The Lipo battery pack provided lots of flying time and the amazing thing was the helicopter itself. It was exactly like a real helicopter. The engineering and detail of all the little parts was unbelievable. Well just seeing that model helicopter make a couple 15 minute flights got me hooked.
My first helicopter was an Esky Honey Bee that did not have adjustable pitch main rotor. I quickly grew out of that. Learning to fly was costly, not so much in the cost of the parts but in the time it took to get replacement parts through the mail. That's when the idea came to me to not only stock up on repair parts but to keep a second helicopter on hand to fly while waiting for mail order repair parts.
My second RC helicopter was another Esky Honey Bee but a step up with adjustable pitch main rotor blades. I highly recommend the Esky Honey Bee E-005 adjustable pitch main rotor. It is smooth to control, and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. When you get into the RC Heli Hobby buy two of these entry level Esky E-005 helicopters. Then check out Radds School of rotary flight. He will get you started flying without crashing.
Just a few of my thoughts about the RC helicopter Hobby. After you learn to fly the Esky models then you can move up to a high end Esky or go all the way and get yourself a Trex. The Align Trex is just about the ultimate RC helicopter flying machine.
